Sue's Dragon Con 2013 Schedule

Hi, I'm Sue.  On Saturday, I got a haircut with bangs for the first time in 18 years, and all for cosplay.  And I am an Anomaly.  Once again, I'll be attending Dragon Con, and once again, a few unsuspecting track directors have agreed to let me sit on panels.  Keeping in mind that everything at Dragon Con is tentative until it's over, here's where I expect to be:

Dragon Con 101 Meet Up!
Friday at 10:00am
American Sci-Fi and Fantasy Media Track (Marriot M302)
If you want to connect and and meet up with other DragonCon newbies, come to this casual meet and greet. This is an informal gathering.  (I am one of the veterans who has volunteered to be on hand to answer questions.)

Happiest Space Off Earth: Disney-Fied Sci-Fi
Friday at 11:30am
American Sci-Fi Classics Track (Marriott M303-304)
Many moons before Disney bought Marvel and Star Wars, they were all about geeky movies, from Dragonslayer to Black Hole.

Hidden Monsters: A Being Human Fan Panel
Friday at 1:00pm
Urban Fantasy Track  (Westin International BC)
A moderated fan-panel discussion of the hit series (US version).

Does a Contract Negate Non-Consent?
Friday at 5:30pm
WhedonUniverse Track (Westin International DE)
Dollhouse had the actives sign contracts. Where does that put the show where consent is concerned?

Much Ado about Shakespeare
Saturday at 1:00pm
WhedonUniverse Track (Westin International DE)
Discuss this contemporary take on a Shakespearean classic. Starring so many Whedonverse actors, there's plenty of reasons to make much ado!

Sidekicks - Hero Support or More?
Saturday at 7:00pm
American Sci-Fi and Fantasy Media Track (Marriott M302)
Sometimes the best thing about a show is not the hero, but the sidekicks! Who’s your favorite? Kenzi? Chloe? Xander? or maybe its Diggle?

Orphan Black
Saturday at 8:30pm
Brit Track (Sheraton Macon)
A discussion of this groundbreaking show, including the ethics and legal issues of real-life cloning.

Gay Themes in Doctor Who
Saturday at 10:00pm
Brit Track (Marriott A601-602)
An examination of DW's role in breaking traditional walls of SF by acquiring a following in straight and gay communities.  (This panel was originally "Gender Roles in Doctor Who".  The topic changed, but I'm still on the panel.)

Me and my AI
Sunday at 2:30pm
American Sci-Fi and Fantasy Media Track (Marriott M302)
The Macguffin of SF is Artificial Intelligence, a blessing or a curse. How has it been handled in media and has your perspective been colored by it?

Brit Fans on the Net: A Podcast Round Table
Monday at 10:00am
Brit Track (Sheraton Macon)
Brit Podcasters unite to discuss being an Anglophile on the net.

The Worlds of Terry Pratchett
Monday at 1:00pm
Brit Track (Sheraton Macon)
This panel discusses the many worlds of Terry Pratchett, including his newest works, The Long War and Raising Steam.

So, those are all my panels.  Look at them all!  How did that even happen?!

In addition to all of those things, there are a few events that I'm 99% sure I'll be attending, including:  The American Sci-Fi Classics Party on Thursday Night, Friday Night Syfy Drive-In Theater showing of Super Shark (or at least part of it), the Doctor Who Anniversary Ball on Friday Night, and the Late Night Puppet Slam on Sunday night.  Phew!  Oh, and I'll be running The ATL 10K in the Atlanta heat on Saturday morning (in a Wonder Woman costume).

So, if you'll be in Atlanta over Labor Day Weekend this year, come say "hello!"  Attending any of the above listed events will likely be the best way to find me, but you can shoot me a tweet (@spaltor) during Con, or even email the Anomaly Supplemental account - moregilrygeekz(at)gmail(dot)com - and that should reach me.  See you there!

Anomaly Supplemental: Slings and Arrows, Act II

By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes...

Hail, Anomalies and Singularities! The battle of the feed has been won, and we shall celebrate with part two of three of Anomaly Supplemental on "Slings and Arrows." If you have not seen season two yet, this is a warning that Sue and I go more in depth and spoilers do occur in this episode. If you have not seen season one yet, not only do spoilers occur for season's one and two, but you are missing out on some fantastic story-telling.

Here is a brief summary of the plot...

Season two of "Slings and Arrows" revisits the New Burbage Theatre Company and its eccentric Artistic Director, Geoffrey Tennant (Paul Gross). "Hamlet" is closing, and it's time to prepare for the next season. While Geoffrey already has something in mind, it seems that outside forces have other plans and he is given the task of directing Shakespeare's bloody and cursed classic many theatre vets call "The Scottish Play." Others may know it as... "Macbeth." (You have no idea how difficult it was for me to type that.) Due to the supernatural nature of the show and his own obsession with it, the ghostly Oliver (Stephen Ouimette) returns to haunt Geoffrey for the opportunity to collaborate on a project that is about to be overrun with big-headed actors, the worst advertising campaign in history, and romantic tension between Geoffrey and leading lady Ellen Fanshaw (Martha Burns).

In our last show notes entry, we encouraged you to send in comments about what you thought of "Slings and Arrows," and we are patiently awaiting your emails, mp3s, and voicemails to play for Anomaly Supplemental on "Slings and Arrows, Part III." Comments, mp3s, voicemails, and other forms of communication can be emailed to moregirlygeekz@gmail.com. You can also contact our very own Google voicemail line at 248-419-GEEK (4335). Plus, you can let us and our Anomalous overlords what you think by leaving a rating and review on iTunes. We here at Anomaly and Anomaly Supplemental also accept other forms of feedback including blog comments, Tweets, and Facebook wall comments on Anomaly's fan page.

We hope that you have enjoyed the first two installments of Anomaly Supplemental on "Slings and Arrows" and that you will continue to listen for our upcoming episodes, two of which will be the conclusion to our epic "Slings and Arrows" podcast trilogy and a discussion on Jim Henson's "Labyrinth." And, of course, stay tuned for the next episode of the Anomaly Podcast featuring Jen and Angela.

Anomaly Supplemental: Slings and Arrows, Act I

My name is KC, and I'm neither Jen nor Angela, but I am an Anomaly.

This is our very first installment of our special project, Anomaly Supplemental, in which Sue and I discuss the first season of the fantastic Canadian series "Slings and Arrows." We talk about the first few episodes of the series, actors we recognize from other works, the inspiration for the plot and characters, and basically have a geek out of Shakespearean proportions. While the show doesn't showcase any sort of science fiction or fantasy element , we feel that this is a show that geeks would enjoy as it features a different sect of fandom.

If you are interested in learning more about "Slings and Arrows", listen to our podcast to get the basic rundown. The series is available for streaming on Netflix, or you can purchase the DVDs and/or downloadable episodes through Amazon or Amazon.co.uk. Each season is only six episodes long, and easily marathon-able. It should be noted that this series does contain strong adult language and content, so the little ones (i.e., Anomalies-in-training) might need to sit out on this one.

After you watch the first season or the entire series, we would love it if you sent in your comments via email or voice recording, and Sue and I will include them in the next two episodes of our "Slings and Arrows" trilogy. Comments can be emailed to moregirlygeekz@gmail.com. You can also contact our very own Google voicemail line at 248-419-GEEK (4335). Plus, you can let us and our Anomalous overlords what you think by leaving a rating and review on iTunes.

We'd also like to take a moment to thank singer/songwriter Marian Call for giving us permission to use her brilliant song "I'll Still Be a Geek" from her album "Got to Fly." Visit her website (www.mariancall.com) to listen to more music and purchase her various albums. Follow Marian on Twitter (@mariancall) or like her on Facebook.

Stay tuned for future episodes of Anomaly Supplemental, which will feature more girly geeks having a good geeky chat about sci-fi, fantasy, movies, television, literature, comic books, theatre, and so much more.
